Strong growth has returned to Ireland one decade after the banking crisis and international bailout. But, financiers and investors fear a “no deal” Brexit — in which the United Kingdom leaves the European Union without a trade agreement at the end of the month — could again destabilize Ireland’s boom-and-bust economy.
The U.K. received 11 percent of Ireland’s exports of goods in the past year, while supplying more than one-fifth of its imports. The Irish central bank conjectures that an orderly exit from the EU would decrease the gross domestic product by 1.5 percent, according to a Reuters story.
While the economic uncertainty — like in many countries — has driven curiosity in cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, Ethereum and others in Ireland ahead of Brexit, it casts a shadow over a burgeoning blockchain boom.

The collaboration will ostensibly enable the Board to use a blockchain-based ecosystem to monitor and evaluate sustainability practices, food safety standards, livestock health, and environmental protections.
The platform will purportedly provide insight into the production environment of pork, making it transparent and allowing parties to ensure valid certifications. According to ripe.io, the information in the system will stay anonymous.

IBM, a provider of technology for creating digital currency, said at least two “major U.S. banks” are considering whether to follow JPMorgan Chase & Co.’s lead in issuing a coin.
Jesse Lund, IBM’s vice president of blockchain, said that the company has held initial discussions with the two lenders on issuing a so-called stablecoin -- a digital token that is pegged 1:1 to an established currency like the U.S. dollar. JPMorgan, the largest U.S. bank by assets, announced in February that it would issue a digital currency tied to the dollar, called JPM Coin.
“We have received interest on the heels of JPM Coin,” Lund said in a phone interview. The two other banks “reached out to us after that announcement.” He declined to name the banks.
Digital coins can enable instantaneous transfers of funds between institutional accounts, reducing settlement times and making it easier to move money internationally. JPMorgan, which moves more than $5 trillion in wholesale payments each day, said its coin will use its own private blockchain to speed payments among corporate customers.

A site called TheTie released a report today that estimates over 86% of all reported Bitcoin exchange volume is suspicious, while 75% of exchanges report extremely dubious volumes. The research uses a different formula than other reports have: it values each website’s visitors and compares that value to the reported figures.
For example, Bithumb, which has been the subject of previous investigations, was expected to have a monthly volume of roughly $1.2 billion based on an average visit value of $13,418. Instead, Bithumb reports over $28 billion. This means their reported volume is nearly 2,000% higher than what would be expected.

However, it was an early investment in Bitcoin that made them billionaires overnight during the 2017 price rise. The twins claim that the early investments have paid off and they are still doing fine, despite the prolonged crypto winter.
