Ethereum Startup Reveals New Products For Devs To Connect Real World Entities

ConsenSys-backed Ethereum startup Rhombus has released a new product called "Oracle" at ETHDenver this weekend. This new blockchain product will support currency trading pairs, asset pricing and blockchain network data. It provides a secure connection to real-world products that were otherwise not connected. Oracle can convert currencies such as the US Dollar, Euro, and Japanese Yen. It also has stock market prices updated every hour. Rhombus unveiled three new products that make use of Oracle. The first is payment pegged to US dollar, asset trading by leveraging gold prices, and finally allowing users to subscribe to per-minute live subscriptions. The products were made available for free for participants of ETHDenver hackathon.

BBVA, which is the second largest bank in Spain, recently sparked outcry and protests after the bank decided to block thousands of accounts belonging to Chinese nationals based on money laundering regulations. The Chinese Association in Spain (ACHE) reports that 4,000 to 5,000 people have had their accounts blocked by BBVA. Responding to the matter, crypto proponent Anthony Pompliano tweeted, “Bitcoin is becoming the global reserve currency right before our eyes. The legacy financial institutions are doing more to help the adoption of Bitcoin than they realize. Long Bitcoin, Short the Bankers!”

There is no doubt that Initial Coin Offerings (ICOs) have seen a huge drop in the last few months. According to a recent report published by cryptocurrency research firm Coinschedule, investor interest in ICOs dropped by 95% in 2018. Last year, ICOs raised $5.8 Billion in the month of March alone. However, so far in 2019, only $291 million has been raised. The report also noted that a lower number of ICOs are being launched. Meanwhile, investor interest is shifting from ICOs to security token offerings (STOs). These STOs are backed by real-world assets such as property, gold, and shares.

The Bitcoin network continues to grow, and it has now reached a new milestone of 10,500 nodes. These nodes form the Bitcoin network that is used to transfer information like transactions, blocks, and other data. It is these nodes that make Bitcoin a reliable digital currency. These nodes are spread across 102 countries across the world. However, leading the list is the United States, with 2,587 nodes, or 25% of the total nodes. It is followed by Germany and France, with 1,995 and 703 nodes respectively. Bitcoin is getting more decentralized with its constantly increasing number of nodes.

Ok, I agree

But doesn’t the same apply to digital USD? Yet most in mainstream consider USD fungible.

Let’s not apply a double standard.
