Major Auditing Firm Attest Circle Hold Enough USD to Cover USDC

On November 21, Circle revealed the first attestation report for its USD Coin (USDC). The report was prepared by one of the largest accounting firms in the U.S, Grant Thornton LLP. The report that was signed on November 16 states that a total of $127,412,240.89  is held by Circle Internet Ltd. in a custody account for USDC. This sum is considered to be enough to cover 127,408,827 USDC that were in circulation at the time when the attestation was conducted.

France Central Bank Does Not Endorse Plans for Tobacco Shops to Sell Bitcoin

French Prudential  Supervision and Resolution Authority (ACPR) has earlier reported to granted permission for tobacco shops in the country to sell bitcoin from January 1, 2019. The shops will now begin to offer bitcoin for sale via a partnership with the French Fintech startup Keplerk. The shops will sell a voucher to customers, which can be redeemed for bitcoin via Keplerk’s crypto wallet. According to Keplerk, this marks the first time anywhere in the world that brick and mortar shops will sell bitcoin to the general public. But according to Cointelegraph, France Central Bank does not endorse plans for tobacco shops to sell bitcoin.

Zaif Exchange Handover Complete, Users Will Get Compensation from Its Buyer FCCE

Tech Bureau, the company that formerly operated hacked Japanese cryptocurrency exchange Zaif, has completed its handover to buyer Fisco Cryptocurrency Exchange (FCCE). FCCE will now assume responsibility for compensating users who lost money in the hack and involved funds worth around $60 million at the time. According to a press release from FCCE, compensation proceedings should begin before the end of this month.

Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) has completed a proof-of-concept (PoC) of a blockchain-based credentials management system. The project ran from May and aimed to improve upon the current manual, paper-based processes with a digital, audit-proof solution based on blockchain.” The solution was developed by a blockchain startup Linum Labs using the open-source technology of uPort. In the proof-of-concept, workers created their digital identities in the uPort app on their mobile devices, and SBB issued them certificates confirming they went through appropriate training.
